IV Therapy Continuing Education Course
- Total Course Length: 30 Hours
Delivery Method: Online/Self-Study
The purpose of this course is to provide currently licensed practical nurses, registered/certified medical assistants, and EMTs with comprehensive knowledge in IV therapy practice, including managing Central Venous (CV) lines. This course provides an overview of vein anatomy and physiology, indications for IV therapy, infection control and complications, central line management and dressing changes, scope of practice and limitations, parenteral therapy, blood components, IV insertion/removal, procedures for venipuncture, and nursing management for patients receiving IV therapy. This course is designed to provide the student with 30 hours of continuing education in IV therapy. Per the FBON requirements, this course must be followed by supervised clinical practice with intravenous therapy to demonstrate clinical competence. Verification of clinical competence is not included in this course. Upon successful completion of this course a certificate of completion will be issued.
IV Clinical Skills Lab and Assessment Continuing Education Course
- Total Course Length: 6 Hours
- Delivery Method: On-campus
Prerequisite: 30 hours IV Therapy course or documentation of equivalent course and/or training.
This course is designed for currently licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and EMTs. This course covers hands-on skills training and a clinical practice assessment witnessed by a Registered Nurse to evaluate clinical application of knowledge and skills related to IV therapy. Prerequisite: 30 hours IV Therapy course or documentation of equivalent course and/or training.
